DEP SOLICITS PROPOSALS FOR UP TO $5 MILLION IN STATE WATER-QUALITY ASSISTANCE GRANTS AND UP TO $3 MILLION IN FEDERAL 319(h) GRANTS

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is pleased to announce the solicitation for two grant opportunities, combined together in a single proposal request document. These grants are:

• The Section 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grant – Funding for projects that reduce or eliminate nonpoint source pollution through public education, demonstration or implementation of best management practices (including green infrastructure), implementation of TMDL(s) and Water Quality Restoration Plan(s), ground water protection, and limited connections of property owners from septic to sewer projects, including abandonment of the septic tank.
• The State Water Quality Assistance Grant – Funding for shovel-ready construction projects that reduce or eliminate nonpoint source pollution, prioritized in impaired waters implementing TMDL(s) and/or Water Quality Restoration Plan(s).

Nonpoint source pollution refers to diffuse sources of pollution that do not originate from discernible, confined and discrete conveyances, like pipes and ditches, and that are caused by rainfall moving over and through the ground. As the runoff moves, it picks up and carries away natural and human-made pollutants, depositing them into lakes, rivers, wetlands, coastal waters, and even our underground sources of drinking water. 

• Proposals are due by the close of business on Friday, November 15, 2019.

• All proposal requests must be submitted electronically to Emily Forinash, the Grant Coordinator in the Nonpoint Source Management Program.

After this initial selection period, DEP will continue to accept proposals throughout the year and select projects for funding at least twice a year.
